about

Where to begin....

This album's cycle began at the beginning of summer, but its origins go back to my childhood. Or maybe my obsession of my childhood. No traumas or psychic injuries(except for maybe some drunken nights and a late night car ride with my mom to nowhere in-particular.) This album is just about me sitting in a room with glorious light, a couple keyboards, a $30 effects pedal, and a 4-track tape recorder. I wanted to make something from thin air. Like I used to with a guitar, an amp, and a 4-track tape recorder.

This is an album about emotions, moods, and memory. As I get older(as my kids get older), I obsess over my own youth and my own childhood memories.

Also, about psychedelics and what that means.

I'm not dropping acid in the spare bedroom, turning on the analog synth, and seeing where things go. But even sober we're trying to find that new spark that ignites our brains and digging into the creative vein to see what bleeds from it.

All things tend to die out creatively, so we need to find new sparks that will ignite that creative fire. That's where the title comes from, "New Psychedelics For Old". Finding new sparks to light the fuse of creativity. As we get older what inspires our art changes. We need to keep moving forward and find that new psychedelic trip that pushes us to put forth the work. That's what this album is.

The songs are improvisations on a Sunday afternoon. Just mood pieces that I revisited later and found the meaning, and these all go back to growing up in the Midwest and finding something to spark my interest in a wasteland of churches, gas stations, and McDonalds. That's the impetus of this album.

"Vol 1"? Yes, there will be a volume 2. It will be different, but connected. So please keep checking back. I hope you like this first volume. I enjoyed making it. "Making it" is what this is all about for me. It may be a little amateurish in the production values, but I don't care. It's not about studio sheen quality. It's about me seeing something all the way through. From the songs to the mixing to the "mastering" to the artwork. It's mine, for better or worse, from start to finish.

Sorry for all the words. Please give it a listen.
